Did SBF really use FTX traders' Bitcoin to keep BTC price under $20K?

Bitcoin sales by FTX come to light as part of the SBF trial, as one prediction suggests that they stopped the BTC price from hitting $100,000. Bitcoin (BTC) failed to hit $100,000 during the 2021 bull market because defunct exchange FTX kept selling BTC, Analysis claims. In an X post on Oct. 12, Joe Burnett, senior product marketing manager at Bitcoin financial services firm Unchained, joined voices arguing that FTX executives suppressed BTC price strength. FTX testimony reveals mass BTC selling As the trial of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, known as SBF, continues, new testimony paints a picture of market manipulation. This week, Caroline Ellison, former CEO of affiliated firm Alameda Research, reportedly told the court that Bankman-Fried asked her to sell BTC should spot price breach $20,000. This was done using FTX customer funds, which neither had the right to deploy. AUSA: What are these? Ellison: Notes from a conversation with Sam. I wrote, keep selling BTC if its over $20...

Bitcoin’s cycles are changing — Bloomberg analyst Jamie Coutts explains how and why

This week’s episode of Market Talks discusses how Bitcoin cycles are changing and how it could impact the upcoming halving. In the latest episode of Cointelegraph’s Market Talks , host Ray Salmond speaks with Jamie Coutts, a chartered market technician and crypto market analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.  When asked whether Bitcoin’s (BTC) pre- and post-halving price action could differ from previous cycles due to a change in global monetary policy, Coutts said:  “I’ve been writing about this for most of the year. We do have some strong fundamentals in the space, but ultimately, what drives risk assets is liquidity. The longer that we have this tightening cycle, and if we start to see an uptick in unemployment and more stress in the banking sector, then there could be a bit more pain for risk assets like Bitcoin.”  Related: The future of BTC mining and the Bitcoin halving Despite the dim macroeconomic outlook, Coutts did suggest:  “We could be near the end. Bitcoin Price Prediction: Bitcoin Drops below $19K

Image
Join Our Telegram channel to stay up to date on breaking news coverage Bitcoin hasn’t experienced a good day after hitting the bear bottom during the arrival of the crypto winter. The arrival of halving was expected, but the other regulatory conditions are playing major as the latest chart shows that Bitcoin drops below $19k. Bitcoin Price Performance Over the Last Month Bitcoin ended August showing major signs of recovery. It was able to stay above 21k levels for three days straight. It is no small feat as the world&rsquo ;s first cryptocurrency has everything pitting against it, from the high-power concerns to the announcement that the Merge update of the Ethereum was close. However, there was only so much the bulls could have done. As soon as the token entered September, it dropped below its $20k resistance – giving only a little reprieve by bouncing off only marginally. Bulls spent most of the early days of September trying to maintain the token above the 20k l...

2024 could be very bullish for crypto — Here’s why

This week’s episode of Market Talks discusses why 2024 could be bullish for the crypto industry and if crypto has weathered the storm. This week’s episode of Cointelegraph’s Market Talks welcomes Huf, the founder of Pear Protocol, a new decentralized exchange launching on Arbitrum in 2023. Huf worked as an equity derivatives trader for various investment banks for over a decade before entering the decentralized finance industry in 2019. He is often quoted in various news outlets for his views on the markets, which he shares in real time via his X (formerly Twitter) profile. The show kicks off with Huf’s views on the current crypto market. Is it in need of a new stimulus and new money? Is it a closed system with the same money rotating from one protocol to the next or one blockchain to another? Is that the reason for such record-low volatility?  Do narratives drive the current crypto market? If so, how can a trader or investor make the right decisions based on those narratives? Huf ...

Bitcoin bulls risk trading range loss as BTC price nears 2-month lows

Image
Bitcoin almost breaks down from its sideways construction in place for months, and Bitcoin bulls are struggling to prop up the market. Bitcoin (BTC) targeted two-month lows on Aug. 17 as United States inflation returned to spook cryptocurrencymarkets. BTC/USD 1-hour chart. Source: TradingView BTC price teases exit from months-long corridor Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView confirmed the lowest BTC price levels since June 21 as BTC/USD wicked to $28,300. The downside came after the United States Federal Reserve published the minutes of its July meeting to discuss future monetary policy. Members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) revealed concerns that inflation might remain elevated without further interest rate hikes — something risk assets did not wish to see going forward. “Participants discussed several risk-management considerations that could bear on future policy decisions,” the minutes read.  “With inflation still well above the Committee's longe...

Bitcoin loses $29K as traders flag key BTC price levels to watch next

Bitcoin traders are particularly interested in the short-term holder cost basis as a potential BTC price support level. Bitcoin (BTC) shed 2% into the start of August as traders’ expectations of further downside slowly came true.  BTC/USD 1-hour chart. Source: TradingView Bitcoin short-term holder breakeven point in focus Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView showed BTC price trajectory leaning lower at the July monthly close. Commenting on a chart showing relevant levels and Bitcoin’s potential moves, he flagged $29,250 as the line in the sand. “Instead of BTC Monthly Closing above the ~$29250 level (black)... $BTC printed a Monthly Close marginally below the ~$29250 level. Price analysis 7/24: SPX, DXY, BTC, ETH, XRP, BNB, ADA, DOGE, SOL, MATIC

Bitcoin is at the pivotal 50-day SMA support and a drop below this level could result in accelerated selling in BTC and altcoins. Bitcoin (BTC) plunged to $29,000 on July 24, signaling that bears are trying to seize control. It looks like the failure to hold on to the higher levels may have tempted short-term bulls to book profits and aggressive bears to initiate short positions. Although the near term looks bearish, long-term investors remain unfazed and they continue to hold on to their positions. Glassnode data shows that Bitcoin’s Long-Term Holder Supply made a new high of 14.52 million Bitcoin, “equivalent to 75% of the circulating supply.” Daily cryptocurrency market performance. BTC traders brace for $30K loss — 5 things to know in Bitcoin this week

Image
BTC price performance is getting market participants worried in the short term, but the signs of wider Bitcoin accumulation are there. Bitcoin (BTC) starts a new week above $30,000 but heading nowhere as the multi-month trading range refuses to shift. BTC price action is giving traders little more than a frustrating sense of deja vu — and they are now wondering what it could take to change the trend. It may in fact be more accurate to say that on low timeframes, a trend is exactly what Bitcoin lacks. The largest cryptocurrency has spent weeks bounding between upside and downside liquidity pockets without deciding whether bulls or bears will ultimately win. This struggle continues to play out with predictable regularity, and nothing — not macroeconomic data prints, institutional involvement or else — has been able to switch things up. With that in mind, it may not be all that problematic that the coming week offers little in terms of data-driven risk asset catalysts from the United S...

Bitcoin mining stocks outperform BTC in 2023, but on-chain data points to a potential stall

Image
Bitcoin mining stocks have been on a triple-digit-tear in 2023, but an uptick in BTC sent to exchanges hints at waning momentum. Bitcoin mining companies outperformed BTC price by a huge margin amid the recent bullish price action in the top cryptocurrency. The average year-to-date gains in 2023 across the stock s of top nine public Bitcoin mining firms by market capitalization stood at 257.14%. The figure is almost three times higher than BTC’s gain in the same period. The higher gains represent the leveraged beta effect that mining stocks enjoy. Leveraged beta suggests that during Bitcoin upside, these stocks outperform. Whereas, when Bitcoin slumps, they face deeper downside risk. Due to a high levered beta, Bitcoin’s price performance will remain a crucial factor in deter mining the direction of mining stock s. The trends within the mining sector show that miners are positioning themselves for the long-term by buying more machines. However, they have yet to exhibit accumulation...

Bitcoin Price Steadies Uptrend Above $30,000 As Bulls Eye More Gains – Why Is This BTC Buy Signal The Key

Image
As reported in the previous Analysis , Bitcoin price only needs to uphold the position above $30,000 this week to allow for more buyers to join the bandwagon, thus creating enough momentum to settle scores with the seller congestion in the region between $31,000 and $32,000. advertisement Bitcoin price has, in the last 24 hours, gained only 0.6% while boasting a 13% uptick over the last week. With the BTC dominance continuing to grow such that it stands at $590 billion, up from $303 billion just after the FTX-triggered crash in November, the market outlook will probably stay substantially bullish in the short term. Bitcoin Price Could Experience Turbulence Before Lifting to $38,000 Despite the calmness currently experienced in the crypto market, in a recent commentary shared with CoinDesk, Deribit’s Chief Risk Officer, Shaun Fernando, shed light on the ‘max pain’ threshold for Bitcoin. This is a critical market juncture that could inflict the g...
