CoinDesk retracts two articles citing ‘standard’ issues

CoinDesk, a famous cryptocurrency outlet, has retracted two opinion articles citing “standard” issues while the company’s policy says otherwise. According to a tweet by Cryptadamist, an eminent anonymous crypto influencer, CoinDesk removed an article about Justin Sun, comparing the founder of the Tron blockchain with Do Kwon and Sam Bankman-Fried. wow, so coindesk just did something they say they basically never do and retracted that article that was critical of Justin Sun because it didn't meet their "standards". pic.twitter.com/pyaxMBwLnV — ⚯ M Cryptadamus ⚯ | @[email protected] (@Cryptadamist) August 27, 2023 Cryptadamist shared a screenshot of CoinDesk’s editor-in-chief’s note that says they “simply and unstintingly correct the article, address what went wrong with the writer or editor, and then move on.” You might also like: SEC to rule on five Bitcoin ETFs before Labor Day weekend Moreover, the crypto outlet also retracted another art...

If Worldcoin can improve the world, why not give it a chance?

Worldcoin could make it easier to create digital identities for people worldwide. And even if it fails, more projects like it are coming. All eyes have been on Worldcoin (WLD) since the July 24 launch of its “World ID” system. The issues associated with the launch have been well reported at this juncture. They include possible onboarding security risks along with Worldcoin’s use of biometric data, which is now under investigation by governments in several countries — including the United Kingdom, France and Argentina. In the tech industry, where many of the most significant innovations of the past few decades have occurred, there is often a tension between the drive to innovate and the need to consider ethical implications. As technologies like machine learning, facial recognition and big data analytics become more advanced, the ethical stakes also rise. In some cases, criticism from external analysts, journalists or ethicists can actually lead to positive outcomes by encouraging comp...

Experiments show AI could help to audit smart contracts, but not yet

Artificial intelligence has proven effective at identifying security vulnerabilities, but early tests indicate it won’t be able to replace humans for a while. While artificial intelligence (AI) has already transformed a myriad of industries, from healthcare and automotive to marketing and finance, its potential is now being put to the test in one of the blockchain industry’s most crucial areas — smart contract security. Numerous tests have shown great potential for AI-based blockchain audits, but this nascent tech still lacks some important qualities inherent to human professionals — intuition, nuanced judgment and subject expertise. My own organization, OpenZeppelin, recently conducted a series of experiments highlighting the value of AI in detecting vulnerabilities. This was done using OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model to identify security issues in Solidity smart contracts. The code being tested comes from the Ethernaut smart contract hacking web game — designed to help auditors learn ho...
